The 1850 and 1860 Census's says she was born about 1776 in Massachusetts. (S15).

She is said to possibly be the daughter of Elijah SMITH. This probably comes from her having a second married to Elijah Smith.
She is also said to be the daughter of Thomas Smith and Lydia Wheeler. (S5).

Record of Mary Smith, the daughter of Thomas Smith and Lydia Wheeler show her being born on 22 February 1775 at Rehoboth, Bristol County, Massachusetts.

She married William CAHOON on 26 October 1809 at Kirtland, Geauga County, Ohio. (S5).

After the death of William in 1828, she married Elijah Smith on 6 November 1836, in Geauga County, Ohio. No known children for this marriage. (S6,S7). This is likely where the report originates that says that she was the daughter of an Elijah Smith.
