James Douglas and Agnes Dunbar

(Sir) James Douglas.
of Dalkeith. (Sir) John Douglas and Agnes de Graham (widow Monfode).

Sir James succeeded his uncle, Sir William of Liddesdale, and was well known for his learning and accomplishments. (S3).

He married Agnes Dunbar on 21 November 1372. (S2). [so he was born possibly about 1350].
Sir James was married in 1372 to Agnes Dunbar, daughter of Sir Patrick Dunbar. They had four children, including a son, before her death in 1378. (S3).

Sir James' second wife was Egida, half-sister of King Robert II. (S3).

Sir James died (in 1420)(about 1440). (S3).

Agnes Dunbar.
Daughter of (Sir) Patrick Dunbar and Isabella Randolph.

Great-granddaughter of Isabella DE BRUS, Queen of Norway. (S1).

She was the niece (and possibly fosterling) of Agnes Randolph, Countess of Dunbar and March. Her mother was Isabella Randolph, sister of Countess Agnes and daughter of Thomas Randolph, first Earl of Moray. Her father, Sir Patrick Dunbar, was the son of Sir Alexander Dunbar and grandson of Patrick, seventh Earl of Dunbar, and his wife, Cecilia. (S2).

She was first married to a man called Robert, and they had children. (S2).

Agnes Dunbarwas a mistress of King David II of Scotland, son of Robert the Bruce. She appears to have become a mistress of King David II around 1369, as payments to her began then. A payment of 1000 merks, a very large sum at that time, was arranged for her a month before the king died suddenly in February 1371, which indicates that he had been very likely planning to marry her. (S2).

On 21 November 1372 she married Sir James Douglas of Dalkeith. (S2).

She died in 1378. (S3).
